The Importance of Following Instructions

This evening, I received an email from my family and comrades of the African Women's Charity Organization entitled, "The Importance of Following Instructions."



Growing up, I was hard headed. I didn't want to listen, pay attention, or follow instructions. Especially when it was from those I did not trust or respect. (However, being able and willing to follow instructions, for a variety of purposes, is a different matter.)

At any rate, at the end of the message were the following "Rules of Discipline" from Baba Kwame Nkrumah's Handbook of Revolutionary Warfare. LISTEN UP!

1. Obey orders in all your actions.
2. Do not take a single needle or piece of thread from the masses.
3. Turn in everything captured.
4. Speak politely.
5. Pay fairly for what you buy.
6. Return everything you borrow.
7. Pay for anything you damage.
8. Do not hit or swear at people.
9. Do not damage crops.
10. Do not take liberties with women.
11. Do not ill-treat captives.
12. Keep your eyes and ears open.
13. Know the enemy within.
14. Always guide and protect the children.
15. Always be the servant of the people.

This past summer at Oakland Freedom School, my Brother Daniel Muhammad reinstilled this necessity within me -- especially when leading our young. But actions speak louder than words. Peep the technique!
